Information You Should Have About Trunnion Ball Valve Design and Its Work

The trunnion ball valve is a quarter-turn valve that is used to stop or start the flow of media in a pipe. The most common type of ball valve has a “free-floating” design, which is why it is a design change. Within this device, the ball connects to the stem on one end, and on the other end, a shaft called the trunnion. Because of this design change, the ball is held firmly in place.

For high-pressure applications, it is an ideal Trunnion Ball Valve Design type. In this device, the ball has some freedom of movement. During use, the ball floats slightly downstream against the seat ring and creates a sealing only on one side of the device. Apart from this, the torque on the stem is always increased. This is the point when its design provides a solution. In the trunnion valve design, the ball is not floating as it is connected to this.

It is beneficial since it will maintain a proper seal on both sides, and there is no added torque to the steam. Thus, for higher pressure application, it will provide sealing and require less torque to move. Generally, they are fitted with spring laded seats. In this device, the pressure forces the ball against the seat, which makes a seal. However, it will require high pressure to create an effective seal.

Apart from this, it is effective in both low and high-pressure situations. In low or no-pressure situations, the spring-loaded seats will create a seal while always working for high-pressure applications. Hopefully, now you have all the information about Trunnion Ball Valve Design and its feature, which make it different from other ones.
